Probate and Administration of Estates

Probate and Administration of Estates

Our deepest condolences on the demise of your loved one. Upon death, the deceased’s assets cannot be dealt with until a Grant of Probate / Letters of Administration is made by a Court appointing a person to take care of the deceased’s property and to distribute it to those entitled to it.

This process involves an application to court. If the deceased is a Muslim there is a prior further requirement of ascertaining the beneficiaries.

The whole process takes about 4 months. Delays, if any, is usually in waiting for written replies from financial institutions.

The Supreme Court deals with applications where the value of the deceased’s estate exceeds S$3 million.
